The 861 is a stereo power amplifier from the North Collection. It uses MOON's MDCA distortion-cancelling topology without global feedback, with a dual-mono configuration. It is rated at 300 W per channel into 8 ohms and 600 W into 4 ohms, or 800 W into 8 ohms in mono. THD+N is 0.001% at 300 W and the damping factor is 900.
The power supply uses two 1500 VA custom low-noise toroidal transformers and 228,000 µF of capacitance. The analog circuits are physically separated, the magnetic shielding is reinforced, and side-mounted heatsinks handle heat dissipation. A multicolour LED indicator shows the amplifier's status.
The rear panel has RCA and XLR inputs, a stereo/mono selector switch and a MOONLink port for coordinated start-up with MOON preamplifiers. Standby draws 1.25 W in low-power mode, and a full-power standby mode is also available. The manufacturer suggests the 891 network player/preamplifier as a companion.
