The GFM 132 is a pressure-transducer boundary layer microphone with a hemispherical polar pattern that stays the same across frequency. Its base plate has a shape derived from computer simulation, intended to avoid the comb-filter coloration that circular, square or rectangular plates can produce. The response is smooth for all angles of incidence, with a slight rise in the upper frequencies to help distant sources sound clear.
Typical uses include live recording in opera-house orchestra pits, theatres and on stage, as well as speaker desks, and placement inside a bass drum. Diffuse-field and free-field responses are identical, and as a pressure transducer it is insensitive to structure-borne noise and air movement. The back has non-slip pads for horizontal or inclined use, plus holes for wall suspension.
The microphone is powered by 48 V phantom power through a balanced XLR 3 F connector and uses transformerless circuitry. A 10 dB attenuation switch next to the connector protects the following input from overload. It ships with a wooden case and a wind screen.
