The DDJ-RZ is a 4-channel controller whose layout follows the rekordbox interface. Controls cover Hot Cues, Sampler, Slicer, Sound Colour FX, Beat FX, Beat Jump and Pad FX. Performance features in rekordbox are unlocked by connecting the unit to a PC or Mac.
The jog wheels are full-size aluminium with adjustable feeling, illuminated cue point markers and a countdown display. There are 16 back-lit rubber pads, an oscillator sampler with Noise, Sine, Siren and Horn sounds, a pad sequencer, Slip Mode, Release FX and a touch-strip needle search. Faders use a contact-free magnetic system, and the crossfader is of club quality.
Two USB ports with two sound cards allow two computers to be connected, with a top-mounted A/B switch for changing between them. Six inputs let it work with CDJs or turntables as a standalone mixer, and Booth and two Master outputs connect to PA equipment. Audio runs through a Wolfson D/A converter and a low-jitter crystal oscillator. DVS control is supported in rekordbox.
