The CD-A550 combines a CD player and an auto-reverse cassette deck in one unit. The CD section plays CD-DA discs, including CD-R and CD-RW, as well as MP3 and WAV files, and reads CD Text and ID3 tags. The cassette section records and plays back in both directions, with Dolby B noise reduction, and handles normal, chrome and metal tapes (metal for playback only).
Dubbing from CD to tape is built in, including edit dubbing, and CD and tape can be set to play in sequence. Useful playback functions include Auto Cue, Auto Ready, Cue Call, Incremental Play, Return to Zero, a mono mix, a REC mute and shock-proof memory. Pitch can be adjusted by ±12.5% on the CD side and ±10% on the cassette side. Power-on play and power-on record are available.
For connections, the unit has RCA unbalanced inputs and outputs for tape and CD, a shared output whose source can be set to Tape, Auto or Mix, and an RCA coaxial digital output for the CD. A 55-key wireless remote control is included in the feature list, and the 3U chassis can be mounted in a rack.
