DR-680
The DR-680 is an 8-track portable digital recorder from Tascam for capturing live, location and surround recordings to SD/SDHC cards. It suits musicians and field recordists who need multi-channel capture in a compact battery-powered unit. It has been discontinued and replaced by the FR-AV4.

The DR-680 records up to eight individual inputs, or six inputs plus a stereo mixdown, as Broadcast WAV files at up to 96kHz/24-bit. A stereo mode records at 192kHz/24-bit, and a 4-channel MP3 mode is also available. Media is SD/SDHC card (not included).
Inputs consist of six mic preamps with 60dB of gain and phantom power: four XLR/1/4" combi jacks and two TRS 1/4" jacks, all accepting mic or line signals. Each input has a low cut filter and a limiter. Mid-side decoding can be applied while recording or only in the monitor/mixdown, and inputs can be ganged for stereo microphones. A digital monitor mixer with level and pan controls feeds a recordable stereo mixdown.
Other functions include pre-recording, level-triggered auto-recording, markers during recording and playback, basic editing such as divide and delete, and a cascade function that links two units. Outputs are six RCA unbalanced line outs, S/PDIF digital in and out, and a stereo 1/4" headphone jack, plus a built-in speaker. A USB 2.0 mini-B port connects to a computer. Power comes from eight AA batteries or the supplied PS-1225L adapter.
