The EL-8 Open Back is an over-ear, open-back headphone built around a planar magnetic transducer. Its ultra-thin Uniforce diaphragm is driven by a Fluxor neodymium N50 magnet array, and Fazor elements guide internal sound waves to limit resonance. The stated goals are low distortion, fast response and clear imaging.
The frame is aluminum, with faux leather earpads and headband and a floating headband design. The headphone is lightweight at 520 g and folds flat for transport. Industrial design came from Designworks, a BMW Group company, and the headphones are made at the maker's Southern California factory.
At 30 ohms impedance and 102 dB/1mW sensitivity, it needs a minimum of more than 250 mW of drive power. It has a frequency response of 10 Hz to 50 kHz and handles up to 3 W RMS. The maker lists the model as a legacy product that is no longer sold new.
