The Penrose is a closed-back, over-ear headset built around 100 mm planar magnetic drivers with a Fluxor magnet array, Fazor waveguides and Uniforce diaphragms. It presents itself to the source device as a two-channel USB headset, so spatial audio processing done upstream (Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Windows Sonic, Tempest) passes through. It has no 3D audio or head tracking of its own.
The main connection is a 16-bit/48 kHz 2.4 GHz wireless link through the supplied USB dongle. Bluetooth 5.0 can run at the same time, which lets a player take phone calls or chat from a mobile device during play. A 3.5 mm analog cable is available as a backup, and the USB-C port is for charging and firmware updates only, not audio. A detachable boom microphone with built-in noise filtering is included. On Xbox the wheel controls the chat/game mix; on other sources it sets mic volume and the USB/Bluetooth mix.
The Audeze HQ app for Windows, Android and Mac provides a 10-band graphic EQ, sidetone toggling and, on Xbox Series X and Bluetooth/wireless, a voice-to-chat mix. Penrose works with PlayStation 4/5, PC and Mac. Penrose X works with Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Windows.
