The R990BT is an active two-way stereo speaker system. Each cabinet is made of MDF and holds a 1-inch silk dome tweeter and a 4-inch long-throw mid-low driver, with a flared bass reflex port tuned for low-frequency output. A built-in digital amplifier delivers 12W RMS to each speaker, 24W in total, and includes dynamic range control.
Sources can be connected wirelessly over Bluetooth 5.4 (SBC codec) or by cable through two RCA line inputs, which allows two devices to stay connected at the same time. The input sensitivity differs per input: 450±50 mV on Bluetooth, 500±50 mV on Line In 1 and 700±50 mV on Line In 2.
Three preset sound modes are provided for music, movies and gaming. The EDIFIER ConneX mobile app switches sources, controls playback, changes sound effects, lets users create their own sound settings and gives access to the user manual. Frequency response is stated as 60Hz to 18kHz with a signal-to-noise ratio of at least 85dB(A).
