The R8 Meta is a pair of compact passive loudspeakers from the R Series, built for Dolby Atmos home cinema. It can be wall-mounted as a surround or rear speaker using its integrated mount feature, or placed on top of another speaker as an up-firing Atmos height module that bounces sound off the ceiling, so no custom installation is needed.
The drive unit is a 12th-generation Uni-Q array: a 25 mm vented aluminium dome tweeter with MAT sits at the centre of a 130 mm aluminium cone. Metamaterial Absorption Technology is a maze-like structure that absorbs 99% of unwanted sound from the rear of the driver. The two-way closed cabinet has a 2.6 kHz crossover, a 97 Hz - 17.5 kHz (±3 dB) response and an 85 dB sensitivity.
Being passive, the speakers connect to an external amplifier or AV receiver rated for 25 - 150 W. Magnetic dedicated microfibre grilles are supplied, and the speakers are designed to perform with or without them. They come in Black Gloss, White Gloss and Walnut finishes.
